Imagine you had to go get a corporate job tomorrow, working for a major company.
(Did anyone else just feel the chill in here, or is it just me?)
Payday rolls around, and your boss tells you that you can’t have your paycheck until you go and tell TEN PEOPLE about the company.
What your company offers.
What makes your company unique.
Why they should choose to work with your company instead of any other company out there.
How you know what their problems are, and you can solve them if only they would hire your company, buy your product, get the thing – whatever it is.
What would you do? Would you go and tell ten people about the company?
Remember, you can’t have your paycheck if you don’t do it.
I don’t know about you, but I’d be telling everyone that was willing to listen. I’d be asking them about their problems, and telling them about our solution. I’d share our story in an engaging way, so that even if they didn’t need our products, services, or solutions, they would know to tell their friends.
After all, word of mouth marketing is the best, and it is easier if you give them a story to tell. A story to SELL you to their friends.
Then I’d return to my desk and tell my boss I had done it, and I’d collect that paycheck. Easy. Done.
Thing is, you’re the boss of your business. And if you’re not telling people about it? You’re not getting paid.
That is so important, I have to say it a second time.
YOU are the boss in this scenario. Unless you have hired a team of people to do it for you, YOU have to get out there and tell people about your business to get paid.
You can’t make money without clients.
You can’t just stick up a website online and hope that people will find you and hire you.
Your website will only help if it is compelling and helps them see what you offer that makes you different than all the other options. If your site is just a bunch of photos stuck on the home page and three paragraphs of text total? Thanks. I’ll move on to the next site where I feel a connection with them.
Are you making sure that at least ten people a day know about your business?
Are you even telling anyone at all that you have a business?
Are you making it easy for people to hire YOU?
Are you giving them a reason why they should?
Don’t worry, we will be talking more about all of this. For now? I want you to get that paycheck for a change.
Are you ready to take the first step?
