On April 4, Elaine & I photographed the wedding of our long-time friend Sydney. It was such a beautiful, amazing, wonderful day. We’ve been so blessed to know Sydney for 6+ years now, and we all miss her since she moved a few years ago to Washington – where she met Chris. (Thank goodness for the internet and blogs to help us stay in touch!) While Mike, Jason & I were on vacation in Seattle last year, we took a side trip up to Whidby Island to have lunch with them, and when I met him, I immediately knew he was perfect for her. They are just an amazing couple and they glow when they are together. We had a rousing, educational conversation about marriage that day, and for months I’ve looked forward to their wedding!
I’m wrapping up proofing the photos (the Getting Ready and Ceremony images are already online), and I just had to share a few of my favorites from the first part of their wedding day!
Syd & Chris decided to see each other before the ceremony. They knew it would calm their nerves, and give them a chance to just talk. We picked out a nice private place for them, and Elaine brought Chris out there, and I then brought Sydney out to see him – giving us a chance to do a private reveal. I don’t ever push couples to do this, but I love it when they do. I think it just settles everyone in. Plus it is just really sappy sweet to have those private moments alone!
Sydney was as gorgeous as always! Her hairpiece was made by SmittenXOXO, and it was smashing!
Chris was very handsome as well, rocking the Utilikilt. I was so excited when Syd told me he was wearing a Utilikilt – when we visited their store last summer in Seattle, I said I dreamed of photographing a Utilikilt wedding – and now I have!
It was the perfect day for an outdoor wedding at Valcour Plantation near Lake Jackson, Texas, under the big tree with the Spanish Moss and crystals hanging down. Yes, crystals — Syd’s fabulous aunts decorated the whole place, and managed to hang crystals down from the tree branches. It was just dreamy!
I love this shot – not just because of the sweetness of the kiss, but because of the look on Elisabeth’s face in the background. It was one of those moments that made me cry. (Can you see the crystals? I just loved them!)
