Megan & Cruz’s Wedding Reception – The Woodlands Resort, Part 2

While Megan & Cruz’s wedding ceremony was beautiful and emotional, their reception was just a ton of FUN! What a fantastic good time everyone had. The food was delicious – the Woodlands Resort always does such a great job – and the DJ had everyone on the dance floor all night!

We laughed, we danced, and we laughed some more. Looking through these just make me smile. I wish Megan & Cruz lived here in Houston, because I’d love to see more of them! Such good people, and I’m so glad they have each other. They make each other so happy. Their love and joy made our jobs capturing their wedding day so easy!

Bananas Foster is always a BIG hit! Everyone likes to see the fire!

The Macarana was fun. I never thought I would say those words. Maybe it is because it has been a few years since we heard it? I’d have photos of “YMCA” here as well, but when Cruz saw me dancing with my camera, taking photos at the same time, he insisted I put it down and dance with him & Megan. Who am I to deny the couple if they want me to dance to “YMCA” with them?

At the end of the night, Elaine went outside first to be sure to get the photo of Megan & Cruz exiting – and I followed them out through all the bubbles!

Thank you again to all of the WONDERFUL vendors who made this wedding so fabulous! And a shout out to Heather at the Woodlands Resort — we’re so glad we were there for your last wedding at the Resort! We’ll miss you!!! Good luck with your new position at the Resort!

Megan & Cruz’s Wedding – The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center, Part 1

I was so excited when Megan & Cruz’s wedding day arrived. When we first talked, I was so excited to learn that they were getting married on May 30, on Memorial Day weekend! Mike & I got married on May 29th, so it is always special when anyone shares our anniversary weekend with us! Megan & Cruz were living in Boston at the time, so I didn’t get to meet Megan in person until she made a trip down to Houston to do some wedding planning. I didn’t meet Cruz until our engagement session at the University of Texas in Austin earlier this year. I knew all along that their wedding day would be so special – you can just see it in how they look at each other, and how they laugh together.

I think that any couple that can laugh a lot together will get through anything. Since we first met, they have moved to California – all while planning a wedding. See what I mean? A cross-country move plus planning a wedding from thousands of miles away? Not an easy thing to do!

But they brought together an awesome team of vendors, some of my favorites in town! Thank you again to Heather at The Woodlands Resort, Robin of Your Beautiful Face, Jason of Reclaimed Moments, Janice of The Blooming Idea, and Frank of FHP Entertainment – you all made the day so awesome, smooth & FUN!

Speaking of favorites, these are some of my favorites from the first half of the day! Be sure to check back later this week for part 2, and the slideshow of our favorites!

Thank you again to Megan & Cruz and both of your families. Elaine & I had such an incredible time working with you, especially when Cruz brought me out on the dance floor for the YMCA! Yes, it is in fact one of my all time favorite dance songs. I won’t even deny it. I can do it while taking photos too – a very impressive skill! (I do the Cupid Shuffle backwards as I take pictures too. It is a special talent of mine!)

Bedazzled shoes. Goodness, I may have swooned. Megan is brilliant! Probably one of the most comfortable brides EVER as she walked down the aisle!

Elaine was with Cruz and the groomsmen as they gathered at The Woodlands Resort before the ceremony.

Cruz & Megan decided to do a “first look” before the ceremony, which was such a touching moment. I understand tradition – I waited to see Mike at the end of the aisle at our wedding – but I think that having a reveal beforehand, privately, is so much more relaxing. You get to actually talk to each other beforehand, and no one has ever told me that they regretted the choice. Love it! We also did all of the group photos out on the golf course then too.

Brooke & Nathan’s Reception – The Plaza Club in Downtown Houston

Brooke & Nathan’s wedding reception was held at the Plaza Club on the 49th floor of One Shell Plaza in downtown Houston, Texas. It is one of my favorite venues in the city because of the fabulous skyline view over Houston which is so gorgeous! The food is delicious, and the staff is impeccable. I really can not say enough good things about working with Jason and the staff there!

If you haven’t seen it already, be sure to check out Brooke & Nathan’s ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston, Texas, and their engagement session in the Texas Hill Country.

All of the flowers at the wedding were so lovely, and tied in perfectly with the paper goods used for the wedding and with the wedding cake – such beautiful details! The purple candy bar with the “Love is Sweet” sign was visited throughout the night by all the guests and was a big hit!

After dinner, Brooke danced with her father, and Nathan joined in with his mother – and then they cut the cake!

After the cake, it was time for the toasts – and then it a lot of dancing!

Before the sparkler exit, people made sure to stop at the Candy Bar to fill a bag up of snacks to take home!

It was such a wonderful day – thank you again to Brooke & Nathan for letting me share it with you! It was such a joy being a part of the day and spending time with your family & friends!

Brooke & Nathan’s Wedding – Christ Church Cathedral, Houston Texas

I’m going through our archives and posting more weddings that we did not put on the blog last year. It is so much fun to look through the weddings! Lots more to come over the next few weeks from different shoots that we didn’t post here before!

Brooke & Nathan were married last fall at the amazing & gorgeous Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Houston, Texas. Elaine was still out due to her scooter accident, so Marc Brubaker joined me for the day. It was beautiful! We could not have asked for a nicer day!

Marc spent the time before the wedding with Nathan as he got ready, and captured some great images! Seems the guys found some light reading to keep themselves entertained.

Meanwhile, I started out with Brooke & her bridesmaids at the Magnolia Hotel across the street from Christ Church, and then we moved on to the church for her to get dressed and finish getting ready. She had one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen – it was so perfectly Brooke! Her flowers were stunning, and everyone just looked so wonderful!

I have to say, Christ Church Cathedral is one of the most stunning & gorgeous churches in all of Houston! However, as a wedding is sacred event and should be respected as such, they ask all guests to put away their cameras and take absolutely no photos during the ceremony. They also only allow professional photographers to take 2-3 images during the ceremony. The church coordinators tell the photographer exactly where they can photograph from, and even sit with the photographer to make sure that is all they take. Talk about pressure to get THE shot! I spent minutes before the kiss making sure I had every single setting set up and ready for the tricky lighting, I had the shot framed, I was ready – and I love the result!

Love this shot that Marc got of the flowergirl getting a lipgloss touch-up. The little girls were so cute!

Brooke & Nathan reserved the Rev Eco-Shuttles to help move people from the wedding at Christ Church Cathedral to the reception at the Plaza Club at One Shell on the other side of downtown Houston. Such a cool idea!

Kelly & Ted’s Wedding, Part 3 – The Reception! The Woodlands Resort {Houston Wedding Photographers}

We wrapped up Kelly & Ted’s wedding by heading out to The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center for a party that lasted late into the night! Marc Brubaker photographed the first half of the reception with me, and we were joined by my friend Virginia Beach wedding photographer Kelly Lee, who is originally from The Woodlands. She had come into town for a workshop later that week, and we’ve often talked about wanting to work together, so I invited her to join us. It was great having her!

Kelly & Ted’s reception started off with a cocktail hour outside of the Emerald Ballroom. When the time came, the guests were let in to a beautiful room, full of gorgeous details! There was an ice sculpture that was also used to chill the signature drinks, a mariachi band to perform, and a cigar roller as a special treat for Ted from Kelly. And there was dancing. LOTS of dancing.

It was such a fantastic party, that by the end, as Kelly’s aunt Julie pointed out in the comments on the Getting Ready post, it was like we had become a part of their “familia” – we were all having such a good time! I just adore them all!

This is what Kelly said review of our work on Wedding Wire:

When I started looking for photographers, Christine was at the top of my list (and price point). After meeting with a few other “less expensive” photographers I couldn’t help but want Christine – her work was amazing, and I wanted my wedding to be amazing. After debating over it for a few weeks I took the plunge and called Christine, letting her know my concerns, budget, ideas, etc. It was instant chemistry! She was able to work with me and get me everything I needed. Christine (and her team) made everyone very comfortable and made the day extremely enjoyable! My pics are AMAZING and I wish she could just follow me around to every big event to capture those cool shots!! I would highly reccomend her for any wedding event big or small. Kelly & Ted’s Wedding, Part 2 – The Ceremony! Holy Rosary Catholic Church {Houston Photographers}

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post about Kelly & Ted’s Wedding, I adore Holy Rosary Catholic Church, just outside of downtown Houston. So many of the churches in Houston have a newer, more modern architecture – not surprising, as a lot of them were built after 1970. Holy Rosary has this solid feel to it. Comforting to me. Something about it just feels like home for me. It reminds me so much of the churches of my youth, growing up in Kankakee, Illinois and attending St. Patrick’s there.

While Kelly & Ted were getting ready, they kept talking about Father Clint. I caught the name because there used to be a Father Clint at Prince of Peace here in Houston. I went into the sanctuary to take photos of the building, and to look for their priest so I could clarify any rules they might have for us to follow during the ceremony — and when I entered the sacristy to introduce myself, I greeted him with “You ARE Father Clint!” He was amused, because I was stating the obvious of course – and I was delighted to discover that he was the same priest I had known years ago! I couldn’t help but laugh about his reaction. He is delightful as always, and if you’re ever looking for a priest to officiate your wedding ceremony, you should definitely contact him at St. Rose of Lima!

Divisi Strings provided the music for the ceremony, and the structure of the church seemed to make their beautiful music even more magical.

Kelly’s sister Marisa was just so excited to see her getting married to Ted, she was on the brink of tears behind her, and we didn’t want Kelly to see so that she wouldn’t cry as well!

Marc got this great photo of Ted as Kelly first entered the church with her father, along with the photo on the left below. Meanwhile, Cissy, the church coordinator, graciously let me go up into the choir loft so I could get overhead images of Kelly & her father entering the sanctuary.

Father Clint gave a very funny and sweet homily, talking about getting to know Kelly & Ted. Marc captured both the image above & below.

The presentation of the madrina de arras and the lazo by the sponsors is always a touching moment. Marc’s photo below on the left.

I love those moments right after the ceremony, as the guests come flooding out, so excited for the couple! Everyone wants to hug them and wish them well. We don’t see a lot of receiving lines in Houston, but maybe it is a tradition that needs to come back? The photo on the right above and the one below are Marc’s.

After the family photographs at the altar, we went into the courtyard with its incredible light to take some more fun photographs!

Kelly & Ted’s Wedding, Part 1 – Getting Ready! {Houston Wedding Photography}

I still remember the first time I heard from Kelly. I was in Mexico for Jose Villa’s workshop, and I had read her email on my iPhone. Something about her message just touched me. I knew. I knew I wanted to get to know her & Ted better. Plus I squealed when I read that her ceremony was at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Growing up in Illinois, I have a special fondness for older Catholic churches, and Holy Rosary is among the best in Houston for the architecture!

Kelly & I exchanged emails, and then when we talked on the phone, it just clicked. She made me laugh. I knew that they were just a super special couple. We had so much fun at their engagement session last summer at CoffeeGroundz and in the area surrounding it. I knew then that their wedding day would be filled with laughter and joy! I was right – you could just feel how much their families love them. How much they all love each other. How hysterically funny they all are. I just could go on and on about them all! Kelly was so relaxed the whole time – everyone had such a blast!

Elaine had to miss out on their wedding thanks to her scooter accident the month before, so Marc came along to work with me. I love working with him! (But we missed Elaine!)

We started off at the hair salon, and then went to Kelly’s parent’s house for the women to get ready. There was lots of hairspray & makeup. Oh, and false eyelashes. I learned that day just how important false eyelashes are – they make every woman gorgeous!

Ted had arranged to have a special gift delivered to Kelly – a very special, sparkly gift!

Kelly’s sister was upstairs getting ready while Kelly was downstairs getting dressed. This is possibly the BEST reaction EVER — Kelly’s sister could not believe just how incredible she looked!

Then her Dad got to see her for the first time in her wedding dress. So sweet!

Then we were off to Holy Rosary! I found Ted’s father waiting inside the church. (Yes, that light made me swoon a little bit.)

Marc was with the guys while I was with the women.

Katherine & Ryan, Part 2 – La Tranquila Ranch, Tomball Texas

I shared Katherine & Ryan’s Getting Ready and Ceremony photos from La Tranquila Ranch yesterday, so now it is on to the reception! What a great party it was!

Katherine wrote this fabulous review about our work on Wedding Wire!

Christine becomes more than your photographer, she becomes your friend. She will tell you herself, that there are so many amazing photographers in the Houston area. Heck, she has meetings with many of them every month. She is not trying to compete with the ability of so many others out there. She wants to be your friend. When you book Christine, you are ensuring that you will be 100% comfortable on your wedding day and with your picture being taken and that it is all being captured. I was a bride that put the photographer above all other vendors…no pressure right!? Well I met with several photogs and Christine was it! She is silly and fun, and works her tail off to make sure you have all the images you want. Also, my guests complimented how nice the photographers were and as a result…we have great photos of our guests from the wedding as well! I didn’t get to meet Elaine cause she was in an accident and hurt a few weeks before my wedding, but Christine went through her list and secured us Kari Noser. She was amazing too!! I love our wedding photos!!

Thank you again to Katherine & Ryan for having us as a part of your wedding day! You guys are so fabulous!

First we wrapped up the portraits before we headed inside — I like to keep the wedding party portraits as straightforward and as fast as possible, because I want you to get on to the party and celebrating with your guests! We didn’t want to take the portraits in the main room though with the DJ’s equipment, so I was so excited to discover what a perfect location the foyer was for them!

Kari got this great shot of Katherine & Ryan! I love that they had a beer glass for him and a wine glass for her!

It was an emotional day for so many reasons; Ryan’s Dad takes a moment with Katherine.

Kat made these *seriously* awesome water bottles for the guests – so fantastic! LOVE them! I love how they coordinated with the table runner on their head table and other items throughout the wedding day. She also incorporated their monogram on a number of items – hand painted on the aisle runner, on the water bottles, the napkins, and Ryan’s Mom made one that was featured outside in the garden as well!

Love this moment after the first dances when Ryan’s father went to dance with his mother. It just makes me smile.

Not only did Katherine make the items above, she made their invitations and the programs as well. Gorgeous!

Katherine & Ryan’s Wedding, Part 1 – La Tranquila Ranch, Tomball Texas

I still remember the night I met Ryan & Katherine for the first time. You could just feel the love in the room. The energy. The joy they were feeling over planning their wedding day. I still remember just how excited Ryan got as he told me about the really cool candle holder centerpieces he was making for the reception, meant to complement the chandeliers at La Tranquila Ranch. I could not WAIT for their wedding day, which was so rich in details of things that they made. It was the day that I realized just how much I love it when clients make things for their weddings! I’m all about the DIY projects!

Unfortunately, Elaine had a single-scooter accident in September, and broke her shoulder. After several weeks of physical therapy, she is back to her old self now, but she had to miss their wedding (along with all of our other fall 2009 weddings). We had already worked with Kari in the past, so as soon as I made sure Elaine was ok the day of her accident, I called Kari and asked her to step in. I’m so glad she was available – she rocks!

We started the day off at the hotel where Katherine was getting ready with her bridesmaids.

Eventually, Kari left to go to the hotel where Ryan and the groomsmen were getting ready.

We all still want to know just how much hair mouse he really needed. I’m sensing some product abuse there.

I have to stop for a moment to talk about Katherine’s veil. This was the most brilliant solution to a veil I’ve ever seen! When she ordered her veil, they asked that it not have any comb attached to it at all. Then they went and found the perfect hair clips so that it could be clipped *under* her hair, showing off her hairstyle and preventing her from having to deal with that pesky comb in her hair! Brilliant!

Originally the plan was for their ceremony to be outside. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. It was a gray and gloomy day with lots of rain. Katherine & Ryan just rolled with it though, and it was the most beautiful day in the end!

I grabbed this shot of Ryan, the guys, and the Charger that they used as the car for their exit before going in with Kat to get dressed at La Tranquila Ranch.

Kari photographed the flowergirl, while I made sure to get photos of those centerpieces that Ryan made for their reception.

Katherine told me she didn’t like the deer heads all over the place. I saw this moment happen, and just had to include it in the shot. She caught me, and I reassured her it looked awesome. It maybe one of my favorite shots from 2009 – and she told me at the bridal show this weekend that it is one of her favorites too!

Instead of lighting unity candles, Katherine & Ryan had a sand ceremony. First the minister poured in white sand to symbolize God as the foundation of their marriage, then Ryan poured in purple sand and Katherine poured in green sand to symbolize themselves as individuals and their families, then they poured in sand at the same time, blending it, to symbolize the union of their marriage – because you can never again separate the sand into individual colors.

Ok, it made me cry. I always cry at weddings. By the way, Ryan made the holder for the vases as well.

While I was being stealth and taking photos from up front, Kari was at the back getting these fantastic shots!

After the ceremony, there were lots of hugs, kisses and tons of JOY!

Thanks for Stopping By to See Us at the Bridal Soiree!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to us yesterday at the Weddings in Houston Bridal Soiree! It was such a great day, and so wonderful meeting so many awesome people! We’ll be doing our drawing tomorrow for the boudoir session that we are giving away! Whoo hoo!!!

And a HUGE thank you to my mom for making our table runner and aprons – they were *perfect*! She is so awesome. Everyone loved them, and they were so handy for us to have aprons so we could keep things in our pockets to hand out to people! Thank you to Elaine & our bride, Katherine, for all of their help – I honestly couldn’t have done it without them! I’m getting the photos ready for my posts about Katherine & Ryan’s wedding – I can’t wait to share them here!

(Yes, I brought everything I needed for the show except my camera! So I had to resort to a fancy iPhone photo. Fortunately, Elaine had her point & shoot with her in her purse, so I’ll share more photos soon!)

We met so many really exciting couples, brides, friends of couples, parents and more yesterday! We had a LOT of women asking about our boudoir packages yesterday, and I think this is so fabulous, because I love doing boudoir sessions! They are just so empowering! I think every woman – EVERY woman – is beautiful, and that we all need to embrace that. So my goal is to help women see themselves as the rest of us see them. I’m extending our current boudoir specials through March, 2010 – you can read all about them here! We’ll also be sending out special mailing list sales over the next few months — you can sign up for our mailing list if you’re interested!
