Elaine & I first met thanks to the H-Town Blogs group. We’ve both had blogs since … well, since before blogs were common place. I met her in person the month before I met my husband in August of 2002.
Back in 2006, right as I sold my hosting company, Elaine approached me about setting up a booth at the First Saturday Market in the Heights. She wanted to do it because our work complimented each other’s style so well. I agreed – and then told her I wanted to start formally shooting weddings, and I wanted her to be my permanent second photographer. She thought I was crazy. Now, over 2 years and 20+ weddings later, I have to say that I honestly could not do what I do without her. She is the perfect balance for me. Our styles blend so well together at weddings that there have been times when I’ve posted photos to the site only to discover when I looked at the file that it is an image that she took, not me. If I’m taking a wide angle shot, she will go in with a zoom lens. If I move right, she’ll go left.
Her name may not be on the door or the logo, but without a doubt she makes the business whole. Not only does she work beside me at almost every wedding, she hears me out when I have crazy ideas, she brings me down to earth when I need it, and she is the master of the spreadsheet, while I love and adore marketing. She is the yin to my yang. I adore her.
Elaine is a native Houstonian born to Cuban parents. She attended Texas A-M University in College Station where she received a B.A. in International Studies, Latin American Studies.
In addition to photography, she loves to salsa dance, twitter, discover new parts of the city and read. She is also fluent in Spanish and loves to travel (Barcelona is her favorite city). She is happily married and a mom to two adorable but mischievous dogs.
She is active in the Houston photography and arts community and is well known as “cybertoad” in the local social media scene.
